Uttarakhand is known as Deva-bhumi due to a large number of Hindu Temples located there.The beautiful state of Uttarakhand is not only known for its beauty but also for its cuisine.The cuisine of Uttarakhand is simple and versatile. The region of Kumaon and Garhwal is known for its tasty as well as healthy dishes. The food habits of Uttarakhand’s changes with the season. Although Uttarakhand prefer pure vegetarian the state also have some people who consume mutton and chicken. For cooking, either pure ghee or mustard oil is used. The use of tomatoes is very little in their cuisine. Their simple recipes of Uttarakhand are made interesting by use of seeds and spices.

Aaloo ke Gutke
One of the most popular dishes of Uttarakhand is aaloo ke ghutke . It’s a simple dish with spices and potato is been used. It is served with puri or with cucumber raita. The dish is mostly made during festivals.
This dish is mostly made during winters by using spinach and fenugreek leaves.This delicacy is cooked in an iron utensil and is usually served with rice.
Baadi is the most famous for its aroma and tangy taste. This dish is made using kwada ka atta ( also known as Choon or Mandua flour and is black in colour ) , ghee and water .
The cuisine of Uttarakhand not only focuses on the main dishes but also on the chutney and raitas . The raita is made using the cucumber, curd and turmeric .
